What happened there ‘The Prodigy’.

Those of you who have heard the new prodigy album will know exactly what I meant when they read that title. The album can only be described as disastrous, and I don’t really know how the band have got to this point.

I spend a lot of my time watching interviews with the bands and artists that I like to listen to, and watched a lot of the Prodigy talking about the new album, saying that they have tried to stick the middle finger up to whats going on with dance music at the moment, and the song “Ibiza” is the pinnacle of that. Yet for some reason it seems that in The Prodigy’s attempt to distance themselves with the world of EDM they have cornered themselves in this dark, ‘all the same sounding’ area. To describe the song ‘Ibiza’ it would be that standard prodigy beat that you would expect, with Keith going “Ibiza, Ibiza, whats he fucking doing, ibiza whats he fucking doing” over the top.
All of this does make me sound like I’m not a prodigy fan which is so far from the truth. That standard prodigy beat that we all know, can and has been shown to create some amazing tunes when mixed with other things. Their previous album was really good and their recent live shows have been amazing. So it really is a shame that they have come out with this. (On a side note it really is cool what the band did when then projecting the album cover all over London finishing with projecting it on the side oh houses of parliment, if you havnt watched it, go check it out)
Hopefully the band will bounce back in the next album cycle. If not they we all have to live with the memory of what they used to be, just think of ‘breath’.

DeadMau5 causing more controversy at Ultra

Image

Ultra Music Festival held in Miami was at the weekend, with Avicii headlining the main stage on the saturday, however his appendix burst or something along those lines, so they decided to book a backup with some actual talent, Deadmau5 himself. Through out the day on saturday the Mau5 was having a field day on twitter, heavily taking the piss out of Martin Garrix, “lemme know if garrix plays animals… and the set contains at LEAST 1 countdown from 10. thanks.”. He then went on to tweet two consecutive tweets, “i got an idea. (thats usually a bad thing)” and then, “throwing some random bullshit together for the set… holy shit I’m such a dick, this is gunna be awesome.”. What he came out with really is hilarious. Video embedded below.

That really does show that Deadmau5 does not care at all. I was actually laughing out loud for this. A couple of other tweets that day saw Joel taking the piss out of Avicii’s levels, “i don’t even know what to play. ill figure it out i guess. (i seriously don’t have levels on here, otherwise i would)”. So guess what he did with that.

The amount of trolling deadmau5 got on twitter that day was hilarious, and he seemed to absolutely be loving it. I love the way that he can go to probably the biggest dance music festival in the world (don’t get me wrong I hate Ultra and everything that it stand for, its just big) and not take it seriously at all, yet engage true fans with parts that are incredibly serious, and quite good. He tweeted after, “The highlight of the set for me was that minimal / techno. I really enjoyed that stuff tho…. Wish it stood out more!”. I’ve embedded the whole set below, but skip to about 7 minutes in to hear the good stuff, he continually dips back into it throughout the set. A comment on youtube I liked was “seven minutes in….. thats what you get when you hang out with Richie Hawtin”.
